Start viewing
On Apple TV, open Atelier Canvas and choose Gallery & Settings. Select a suggested collection to start playback, or type an artist, style, or subject and choose Search & Play. Choose Museums & Sources to select museums; Use all includes every supported source.
Apple TV controls
Right advances; Left returns to viewed artwork. Up or a center click shows controls. Play/Pause pauses or resumes autoplay. Back opens Gallery & Settings and returns one screen at a time within settings.
Save and play Favorites
Reveal artwork controls and select the heart marked Save. Select Saved to remove it. Open Explore collections and choose Favorites to play your saved artwork. Shuffle uses your saved collection only; museum selections do not add other artwork to Favorites. No account is needed; Favorites do not sync to another device.
Favorites references and credits stay locally, while images use the shared limited cache and load as needed. Saving a favorite does not permanently download its image. Offline viewing works only for artwork still cached. An unavailable image can be skipped without deleting its saved entry.
Pause on a piece you love
Pause autoplay, then choose View artwork. The paused label fades after a few seconds while the image stays paused. Frames, mats, warm lighting, and sizing are in Appearance.
Sources and shuffle
New installations use all eight sources with shuffle enabled. Your previous selections are preserved on later launches. Autoplay mixes matching artwork from your selected sources; museums do not receive equal turns. It favors unseen artwork and, when enabled, suitable screen proportions. More candidates are discovered in the background as needed.
Loading or unavailable artwork
Check your internet connection and try another collection or museum. The app starts with available results and adds more as museum searches finish. Artwork size and museum image servers can affect loading. Museum status & counts shows recent availability checks; Refresh collections rechecks suggestions and source access. It does not download an entire museum collection.
Small collections and search counts
A museum’s reported search count is not a guarantee of that many playable images. Rights, image quality and artist matching can narrow the results. NGA, Yale, Getty and Commons use selected bundled indexes; artist searches may cover only part of a source’s collection. If discovery finishes with one playable work, the app shows “1 artwork available.” Refresh collections updates availability checks, not the complete bundled index.
Artwork is cropped or has empty space
Use Fit to show the complete image. Adaptive fills only when cropping is small. Fill can crop substantially, especially for portraits on a widescreen TV. Prefer screen-shaped artwork favors closer matches but may still show other shapes.
